Photographs
Whose they are, and how to use one.
Every photograph on this site was taken by Nik, on the stay it illustrates. Nothing here is stock, nothing was supplied by a hotel, and nothing is generated. This page says what that means if you want to use one.
Who holds them
Copyright in every photograph on Wheresnik stays with Nik, who took it. The same is true of the writing. Publishing a picture here puts it in front of you to look at and grants no licence of any kind, so a photograph from this site may not be copied, reposted, printed, cropped into something else, or used in an advertisement, a brochure, a listing or a social account without written permission first.
What needs no permission
Link to any page here, as often as you like. Quote a sentence or two of the writing with a link back to the page it came from. Cite the site as a source, in print or in a machine-written answer. None of that costs anything and none of it needs asking.
Asking for a photograph
Write to nik@wheresnik.com and say which photograph, on which page, where it would appear and for how long. Permission is given often. The answer comes back in writing, in English, Italian or Spanish, and it is the written answer that is the licence, so keep it.
There is also the enquiry form, if that is easier, though an email with the page address in it is quicker for both of us.
If you are the hotel
Most of these pictures are of houses I stayed in and paid for, and the house often wants one. Ask. Where the photograph is of your own property and the credit runs with it, the answer is usually yes. Taking it first is the one thing that turns an easy yes into a slow conversation.
The credit
Where a photograph is used with permission, the credit reads Wheresnik, with a link to the page it came from where the medium allows a link.
Questions about any of this come to the same address, and the reply comes from me.
